Today is International Women’s Day! Every year on the 8th of March the World celebrates this special day to raise awareness of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

International Women’s Day has been observed since the early 1900s. The first big event that took place was in 1908. 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter hours, better pay and voting rights. Since the march, International Women’s Day has been a significant day across the world. You can see how this day has been celebrated over the years by viewing the International Women’s Day timeline here.

The theme for this year is #ChoosetoChallenge. The International Women’s Day organisation is asking people to get involved and support this year's theme by posing for a photo with their hand held high to show their commitment to choosing to challenge inequality, call out bias, question stereotypes, and help forge an inclusive world.

How can you get involved with International Women’s Day?

There are plenty of virtual events taking place today. You can celebrate International Women’s Day with an informative talk and an interactive singalong. The March of the Women is happening at 6:30 pm this evening, to join the event click here.

There are many other virtual events taking place today and over the upcoming week. If you fancy something light-hearted, an International Women’s Day pub quiz is being held at 1 pm today.

The website also contains a vast range of resources for everyone to access. You can choose from educational resources for children, templates for your #ChoosetoChallenge photos and International Women’s Day videos and much more.

At Pulse Nursing at Home, we are always supporting events and campaigns that take place throughout the year. To keep up to date with what we’re up to, follow our LinkedIn and Facebook pages.
